Jazmin González: From Dreams to Reality with AVANCE-Houston

Jazmin González always dreamed of opening her own business. Becoming a business owner involves many sacrifices, such as missing family events, birthdays, and children’s milestones. Jazmin faced these and many other challenges on her way to success.

Through the Parent-Child Education Program (PCEP), Jazmin learned invaluable strategies for managing her time effectively while also finding ways to be a present and engaged mother while pursuing her business goals. Educational reading and learning games with her children became a part of their daily routine, allowing her to spend quality time with them and make learning a fun experience.

In 2018, she successfully opened Vida Beauty Studio. This milestone was a testament to her perseverance and the support she received from AVANCE. She applied the lessons learned from PCEP to balance her work and motherhood.

Through another alumna, she learned about the AVANCE-Houston Alumni Ambassador (AHAA) initiative and became an active member. She participated in volunteer activities with other alumni to support families in PCEP. Her enthusiasm and dedication to giving back stood out, opening the door for her to join in AVANCE’s major fundraising event, Inspiring Dreams: A Runway of Success. At the event, she walked the runway as a community leader, hand in hand with a young girl who aspired to be a cosmetologist, just like her.

A Thriving Business and a Grateful Heart

Today, Jazmin credits AVANCE with giving her the tools and motivation to open her business and, most importantly, for teaching her the value of a healthy work-life balance.

She takes special pride in seeing her clients satisfied after a job well done. Her salon offers hair services, specializing in blondes. Jazmin’s journey is a testament to the power of community support and education in transforming lives.

Jazmin’s journey serves as an inspiring example that shows how anyone can overcome obstacles and achieve their professional dreams. With perseverance, support, and a clear vision, it’s possible to lead not only oneself but also one’s family toward success.
