Thursday, October 20th, was an incredible day for us here at AVANCE Houston. We celebrated our Second Annual Inspiring Dream Celebration. Thirteen professional adults served as role models to 13 AVANCE-Houston children who showed off their distinctive style and future aspirations that resonated across a room filled with mission-driven individuals and community leaders who advocate and support high-quality education in Houston.
AVANCE Houston Inspiring Dreams Celebration was a Runway of Success!
From a saluting aspiring police officer, joined by Harris County Precinct 2, Constable Jerry Garcia, a banker, joined Vicepresident of Community Outreach, Melissa Vela, to a future gymnast joined by three times Olympic Champion and five times World Champion Gymnast, Svetlana Boguinskaia. Our thirteen-year-old meteorologist Kingston Bean co-emceed the event with our city’s KPRC 2 anchor Khambrel Marshall.
Other careers on the runway included a pilot, corporate leader, principal, teacher, and journalist, among others.
Indeed, the event’s highlight was our Runway of Success and the Galeano-Duarte Family, who shared with the attendees how AVANCE-Houston has transformed their lives. The family was honored with the AVANCE-Houston Exemplary Family Award.
During the memorable event, Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa was recognized with the Dreams Come True Award for being a transformational leader and her dedication to equitable education. Hinojosa’s message noted the importance of parental involvement in a child’s education and the benefit the partnership between AVANCE-Houston and Spring ISD brings to the community, particularly in early childhood education.
The event also featured Houston Fire Department Chief Samuel Peña, who received the Chairman’s Award for his commitment and contributions to AVANCE over the years.
Our Inspiring Dreams Celebration raised funds to support our nationally recognized Parent-Child Education Program (PCEP) and Adult Education Program.
