Inspiring Dreams: A Runway of Success is a source of empowerment and positive change for the community

On Friday, October 25th, 2024, the AVANCE team, in collaboration with our dedicated co-chairs Vicy Luna from H-E-B Public Affairs and Claudia Ortega Hogue, Vice Chair of AVANCE-Houston and Partner at SSP Engineering and Consulting, created a welcoming atmosphere for nearly 350 guests at our “Inspiring Dreams: A Runway of Success” celebration.

Grace Olivares, the Director of Community Empowerment at TelevisaUnivision, Inc., emceed the event, which featured uplifting music, camaraderie, and a strong emphasis on empowering our families and community leaders. The day was filled with exciting conversations and unforgettable moments, and the strength and unity of the AVANCE families were highlighted.

In its third year of hosting this event, we proudly launched a dynamic Marketplace, followed by a hosted reception that provided guests with an excellent opportunity to connect, network, and enjoy lively conversations.

Attendees also enjoyed an exceptional performance by former Head Start student, JoseRuben Garcia, accompanied by his mentor, Broadway Performer Michael Baerga. Together, they presented a heartfelt piece in honor of JoseRuben’s father, Ruben “Rocky” Garcia.

Emotions ran high as 16 AVANCE children, the future leaders of our community, walked the runway alongside community heroes, showcasing their ambitious career aspirations. Their dreams and determination inspired all attendees.

Some of our community superstars included U.S. Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29), who recognized former Head Start Beverly Acosta, a young girl who aspires to be President of the United States; Chef David Cordua; HPD Sergeant Jesus Robles; Lawyer George Farah; and H-E-B Managing Director Lisa Helfman, among many others.
