AVANCE Houston’s Biannual Parent Summit: Empowering Families with Resources and Opportunities Theme
On Saturday, October 26, AVANCE Houston hosted its much-anticipated Biannual Parent Summit at our EHS/HS Mangum center. The Learn, Grow, and Discovery Parent Summit welcomed 61 parents and nearly 150 children for a full day of enriching workshops and valuable resources to support family growth and empowerment.
The summit included various interactive sessions designed to equip parents with tools for better communication and strategies to make learning at home enjoyable. These included yoga sessions led by the AVANCE Education Department, parenting workshops by the Parent-Child Education Program (PCEP), and financial literacy by the Healthy Relationships program. Additionally, there was an inspiring workshop from the Houston Grand Opera. In contrast, Covenant Community offered an informative session on homeownership.
All AVANCE parents had access to various community resources. With essential health, safety, and wellness insights, parents gained tools to support their families better. Volunteers from the University of Houston and Rice University also contributed to the day, adding additional support and engagement.
