AVANCE-Houston’s 8th Chili Cook-off event was a fun opportunity for camaraderie and friendly competition.
The cook-off marked the closing of the 2023-2024 campaign, a series of events aimed at raising funds for our partner, the United Way of Greater Houston. The funds will support families through financial stability services, early childhood and youth development programs, and health care programs.
Five teams of AVANCE-Houston staff competed for the best tasting, best team, and most spirited awards. The teams were The Safari Staff (winner of best chili), Walter’s Chili Chili Bang Bang (winners of best theme and most spirited), Jeans and Beans, Space Wizards & Chili Troopers, and Hot Chili Mamas.
AVANCE wants to thank everyone who made this eventpossible, including the contestants, volunteers from the Bahá’í Community, and our outstanding judges –Dr. Nicole Walters, Chair of AVANCE’s Board of Directors; Luz Flores, AVANCE-Houston Executive Director; Ozichi Nnadozie, from the United Way; and Arash Sabeti, a volunteer from the Bahá’í Community.
